For this assignment my goal was to take one clichéd, or common photo, and another with the same subject matter but not usually seen in a photograph. The first of my two photos was a clichéd shot of a flower. This photo focused on two flowers in a planter. The contrasting colours allowed your eyes to be drawn to the flowers, and although it may still be nice to look at, this type of shot is well overdone. However, in my second photo I used a dying flower as my subject matter. Some ways which made this photo very different from the first was the colour, angle, and amount of flowers. Although this type of shot is not typically done, I believed that it was a refreshing change. Also I enjoyed the contrast between the green healthy leaves to the wilting flower.

In the photograph my aim was to take a landscape photo with inspiration from K.R. Whitley. While researching I noticed that from many of his photos is that many include some sort of stream, ocean, waterfall, etc., and hardly none involved man made structures. I choose this photo because I felt that it demonstrated his style with the colouring and light which he typically uses in his photography.
These two photos are examples of symmetry vs. asymmetry. The first of the two photos is symmetrical, by creating a balance it creates a main view point which draws attention to the centre of the photo. The second photo has the flower place slightly to the lower lefthand corner of the photograph demonstrating asymmetry. While both of the photos have the same subject matter and focus my preference is the asymmetrical photo. Rather than the one flower drawing your attention to the centre of the photograph, the asymmetrical photo allows you to notice and explore different elements in the photograph.
The summer of 2015 was filled with relatives visiting from Saskatchewan and Alberta, and getting together with friends and family. Although my family did not go on any vacations outside of B.C. we found our own ways to have fun. Baking and going to our friends cabin just off of Vancouver Island were just some of the many activities. Swimming and sleepovers were common occurrences throughout this hot summer, and weekly dinners with my family added to the relaxing feel of summer. Although it was sad for summer to end I am excited for our last year in high school where we do not yet have to worry about university or deciding what to do with the rest of our lives. These photos are six examples of snapshots. Photos such as these these are commonly sent on snapchat explaining to your friends about how you feel about school, or just about typical Vancouver weather. What makes the photos snapshots are the fact that they are blurry, have glare , or are insignificant and have no point of interest such as the bottom left photo.
